Globus Trace
'Globus traces' shows the path on a map. Core functions are
- requesting mapping data from KAP location server
- displaying the map
While the data management is a background task without any user interaction
the mapping offers lots of features to be customized by user. Any ESRI Shape
file style map (this is the usual GIS format) can be loaded, detail level
can be from 'rough idea' to 'everything you want'.
Mapping features are
- load any ESRI Shape file (ArcView® compatible)
- create overlays
- automated layer visibility control by zoom level
- automated coloring for best viewability
- export into gif/jpeg/windows meta file
It includes a download modul to fetch predesigned maps.
Fine print
I do not promise unlimited, precise, uninterrupted and life time supply
of IP->Long/Lat data.
This might sound a little bit dramatic.
But I thought it should be said. I don't really see a danger that my services
shut down. But you never know... and 'livetime' is a long time. And what happens
in 2010 when we have the IP4 to IP6 move (or whenever it will really happen
:-)? And I don't know whether the server hardware is always up. And in case
of disaster how long a recovery needs. And I didn't test all the data, the
company I bought it from claims "The database has over 95% of accuracy
in country and ISP level, 70% in region level and 65% in city level, which
is higher than any of our competitors.".
Additional 3d Traceroute has two interfaces to query commercial services
for data. So if you really *always* need the data you can create your
own data backup.
