Interface Integration

Interface Integration is the solution to have 3d Traceroute (almost) everywhere you need it. If you want to have it somewhere don't hesitate and write me an email.

You get a 3d Traceroute icon in some major application. Currently it supports:

• Windows Task Bar Tray
• Microsoft Outlook 2000, XP, 2003
• Microsoft Outlook Express
• Microsoft Internet Explorer
• Mozilla Firefox
• Pegasus Mail
• Personal Firewall Logs:

using Interface Integration

In this example a web page with a lot of links has been grabbed via Internet Explorer Integration.

The Interface Integration Tool extracts everything that looks like a symbolic computer name or like an IP number. Simply choose the tool to analyze it.

Installation

Due to the integration a tight bonding with other applications is needed. And due to that some precautions need to be taken. Integration is always non-destructive: even if you break it, other applications will continue to work.

Create a folder for 3d Traceroute. This folder needs to be a permanent home for 3d Traceroute, you can't move it around or delete it. If you move it there will be not harm for the 'other application' but the Interface Integration will be broken and needs to be set up again.

If you delete the folder Interface Integration will be broken, too.

So: Copy 3d Traceroute into that folder, start it and switch to the 'settings' tab, switch to 'Interface Integration' subtab. Choose the integration parts you need.

Notes

Internet Explorer
	If the toolbar has been customized by user or other software (this means: buttons are added or deleted so it is not the default situation any more) the button will not show up automatically. You need to re-customize your toolbar and move the button on the toolbar.
Outlook Express
	Outlook Express Integration needs the Control Center to install the toolbar. You must start the Control Center before Outlook Express is started. (Remark: Outlook Express Integration uses some very strange techniques like DLL injection to communicate with Outlook Express. There is no API to do it.)
Outlook
	If Interface Integration is deinstalled the toolbar and the button will remain visible but have no function. You need to remove the toolbar manually by using the customizing menue.
Pegasus Mail
	To uses the Interface Integration in Pegasus Mail you need to open the message (double click) and switch to the "raw view" tab. Then click on the 3d Traceroute icon. (Remark: Due to interface limitations Pegasus Integration uses some strange techniques like posting messages to an application and data transfer via clipboard. If there is anyone out there who knows Pegasus Mail API better you are welcome to assist me!)
Firewall Logs Analysis
	Firewall Logs Analysis needs the Control Center to notify a log file change and to initiate the analysis. You can start the Control Center any time.
